Founder
Mike Durina brings exceptional expertise to advanced engineering and molding technology with an AAS in Plastic Engineering from Ferris State University and a BS in Industrial Engineering from Kent State University. His career began in 1978 across three injection molding firms before joining Spirex in 1984, where he served as VP of Sales & Service for 16 years, growing the company from $1.8 million and 18 employees to $22 million and 180 employees. In 1999, he founded Md Plastics Inc. to focus on advancing plasticating technologies. Mike has been awarded eight patents with one pending, including revolutionary technologies like the Melt Profiler™, Inject-EX™, Mini-Shut™, and MDP™ Performance Valve. His deep understanding of the plasticating unit's critical role in injection molding drives the company's mission to help molders achieve greater profitability through innovative component design and manufacturing.
What does a molding engineer do?
A molding engineer designs, optimizes, and troubleshoots injection molding processes and equipment. They analyze material behavior, develop custom plasticating solutions, calculate processing parameters like shear rates and pressure profiles, and work to improve melt quality, cycle times, and overall manufacturing efficiency through technical expertise and innovative engineering approaches.
