Founder

Mike Durina brings unparalleled expertise to extrusion screw design, combining formal education with decades of hands-on industry experience. He holds an AAS in Plastic Engineering from Ferris State University and a BS in Industrial Engineering from Kent State University. From 1978 to 1984, Mike worked in various capacities for three injection molding firms before beginning a transformative 16-year career at Spirex in 1984. As VP of Sales & Service, he grew Spirex from $1.8 million in sales and 18 employees to $22 million and 180 employees, demonstrating exceptional leadership and technical acumen. In 1999, Mike founded Md Plastics Inc., driven by his deep understanding of how critical plasticating unit performance is to overall process efficiency and profitability. Since founding the company, Mike has been awarded eight patents with one pending, including innovations like the Melt Profiler™ system and revolutionary Posi-Melt™ screw designs.
