CASE HISTORY

  • COMPANY: Delphi Automotive Systems
  • DATE : 11/02/2000
  • DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM: A hot runner mold is used to produce a large part out of nylon 6-6 with a problem of un-melts causing the orifice of the hot tip to block and produce short shots and surface imperfections.
  • MACHINE DATA
  • MAKE: Cincinnati Vista
  • MODEL: VT 600
  • SCREW: 80mm
  • SCREW L/D: 20:1
  • RATED SHOT SIZE: 1701 grams.
  • PROCESS SETUP: BEFORE
  • SHOT SIZE : 1105.64 grams
  • RPM : 100
  • BACK PRESSURE: 10.34 bars.
  • RECOVERY RATE: 22.85 gr./rev.
  • CYCLE TIME: 60 sec.
  • MELT TEMP.: 288 C
  • PRODUCT SOLUTION: A multi-purpose Posi-Melt TM PATENT PENDING design eliminated the un-melts in the melt pool while lowering the melt temperature, RPM and backpressure. The lower melt temperature eliminated the heat induced splay and imperfections.
  • ECONOMIC GAIN: Reduction in scrap due to short shots and splay. Lower RPM and reduced backpressure reduces the likelihood of equipment failure and need for replacement
    and downtime.
